China has surpassed Japan, becoming the second largest country preceded by USA in terms of the IT sector. In 2004, China exported 207.5 billion USA dollars of IT products, growing by 46% year-on-year and accounting to 35% of the gross volume of exports.
There are more than 3,300 IT manufacturers in the city of Dongguan, reaching an output of 140.294 billion yuan, ranking first among all other sectors. The quality of the products is strongly recognised, making Dongguan an important base of supply parts for companies such as IBM, HP, etc… The annual 3C EXPO DONGGUAN China has become the global fourth 3C expo, attracting companies from all over the world.
Especially remarkable in the area is Qingxi, a town situated to the south east tip of Dongguan. Qingxi has managed to become an industrial economic entity attracting investment from Japan, Korea, USA, Hong Kong and Taiwan among other countries. Qingxi has developed a structure of large-scale enterprises and a network of supporting high-tech companies, specialising in developing new equipments to improve the sector. |

• China, as the first exporter of shoes, sells to other countries around 25% of the gross world exports. Textile industry has also an increasing importance. Both segments have become two pillars of the region’s economy, accounting for the 16% of gross volume of exports.
There are more than 7,000 specialised garment enterprises in Dongguan, employing more than 600,000 people. 70% of the products are sold in European countries, SE Asia area and the USA.
Most of the manufacturers are set in Humen Town as it is considered the base of textile industry in China. From 1996, when the first International Fashion Fair was held in Humen, this town has become a key component in understanding the industry in the region, having been granted by the Chinese government with the titles of “China’s base of textile” and “China’s famous town for women fashion” |

• Furniture |
| |
• Dongguan furniture exports account for more than 50% of the total of China and some 70% of branded furniture is made in Dongguan. There is a relevant foreign presence in the area, since from 2,000 furniture manufacturers, over 50% have their headquarters in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Exports grow at a 10% yearly rate.
Houjie Town, with its “10 Km Street” of furniture manufacturers has reveal itself as a large-scale pivot in the sector. During the last few years, it has built a large network for the manufacturing and support industries. Its exhibition centre is a point of reference for the whole country. |

• Mouilding & Machinery |

• With the quick development of the moulding sector, China has become a major player, ranking 3rd as mould manufacturer, right behind Japan and USA. There are more than 6,000 manufacturers in Guangdong, accounting for one third of the national output.
In particular, the town of Hengli, located in the east of Dongguan, is the base for 500 companies from Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, Japan, Singapore, Korea or Israel among others. Responding to the local government’s plan to build an international city of manufacturing, the town of Hengli has developed more than 10 industrial parks, such as Shenshan or Xincheng. |
